Fullerton, Calif. - Former Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rivals San Jose State and Washington will provide the opposition this weekend when the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer teams hosts the CSF Tournament at Titan Stadium.

Big West Conference foe Cal State Northridge is the fourth team in the event, which begins Friday at 4:30 p.m. with CSUN vs. Washington followed by the Spartans and Titans at about 7 p.m. The tourney concludes Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 11:30 a.m. with CSUN and San Jose State in the opener followed by the Titans and Huskies.

THE TEAMS: Fullerton is 0-0-2 after a pair of ties in the Saint Mary's Tournament in Moraga. The Titans and host Gaels played a scoreless match on Friday and the Titans drew with USF, 1-1, on Sunday thanks to a tying goal by Nick Posthuma. Trevor Whiddon went all 220 minutes in the net for Fullerton.

San Jose State is 2-1 with home victories over UC Riverside and Cal State Monterey Bay and an overtime loss at UC Davis. Josh Boemecke has three of the Spartans' 7 goals.

Washington is 1-1-0 after splitting two games in the Nike Portland Invitational. The Huskies lost to No. 30-ranked Evansville, 2-1, before beating Northern Illinois, 1-0, on a goal on a deflection off the goalkeeper of a throw-in.

Cal State Northridge is 0-2 after getting shut out at home by San Diego and at Loyola Marymount by identical 2-0 decisions. Michael Abalos took both losses in goal although Joe Scachetti played one of the halves.

HEAD-TO-HEAD: Fullerton is 3-9-0 vs. the Huskies but only 1-1 at home -- a 3-1 win in 1993 in Titan Stadium and a 4-0 loss in 1988 on the old soccer field. Washington has won the last five meetings including a 1-0 decision on Sept. 19, 2008, in Seattle. The two teams used to compete against one another in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (1992-2000).

Fullerton is 13-10-3 vs. the Spartans. The last meeting was a 3-2 overtime win for Fullerton on Aug. 27 in the 2006 season opener in San Jose. The teams tied, 2-2, the year before in Titan Stadium. The Spartans won the previous meeting, 3-2, in Fullerton in the 2000 MPSF Playoffs.

GOAL SCORER: Nick Posthuma has the only Titan goal of the young season, vs. USF. He also had a goal in a scrimmage vs. Cal and lost an apparent goal in the final minute vs. Saint Mary's to an offsides call.

GOAL STOPPER: Junior Trevor Whiddon has played all 220 minutes of the young season in goal and allowed only one score (0.41 GAA) while making 8 saves.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE: The Titans head east for a third and final pre-conference tournament next week, facing West Virginia and Pittsburgh in Morgantown, WV.
