Irvine, Calif. - Defending champion UC Santa Barbara was an almost unanimous pick to repeat as Big West Conference men's soccer titlist in 2010 in a vote of the seven head coaches.
The Gauchos got 48 of 49 points and six of the seven first-place votes. UC Irvine got the other first-place vote and was projected for second place with 43 points. The next three teams were closely aligned with Cal Poly third with 28 points, Cal State Northridge fourth with 27 points and Cal State Fullerton fifth with 22 points. UC Davis (sixth, 17 pts.) and UC Riverside (seventh, 11 pts.) round out the predictions.
Cal State Fullerton plays a game-like scrimmage Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Titan Stadium against Cal-Berkeley. Admission and parking are free. Their is an alumni match on Aug. 28, the season opener Sept. 3 at Saint Mary's and then the home opener on Sept. 10 vs. San Jose State as part of the Cal State Fullerton Tournament which also features Northridge and Washington.
