Coaches Tab Titans for Bottom of Big West

Aug. 18, 2008

Irvine, Calif. - The Titans have received the Rodney Dangerfield treatment -- no respect.

With 23 newcomers on its roster, the Cal State Fullerton men's soccer team expects a transition period to open the season but the rival Big West Conference coaches think it will take a full season and have forecast the Titans for a seventh-place showing in the final standings per their annual pre-season poll.

Two-time defending champion UC Santa Barbara got 6 of the 7 first-place votes with UC Davis edging Cal Poly for the runnerup spot. Cal State Northridge was picked fourth followed by UC Irvine, UC Riverside and Fullerton.

UCSB, the 2006 national champion, is ranked as high as No. 9 in the national pre-season polls. UC Davis placed second last year, its first official season in the conference. Cal Poly is coming off an 11-win season.
