Coach Eddie Soto Lost to UCLA

July 13, 2006

Westwood, CAlif. - Eddie Soto has resigned his post as assistant men's soccer coach at Cal State Fullerton for a similar position at UCLA, which announced his appointment today.

Soto rejoined the Titans' staff in January after a two-year stint with the women's program at Long Beach State. He originally served as a Titan men's assistant from 2001 to 2003 before his position was eliminated due to budget cuts.

UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo and Soto were teammates at Cerritos High School and on the U.S. Under-20 team. Soto played one year at Chapman University before transferring to Fullerton, where he earned All-American honors in 1992 and 1993. In the latter season he led the Titans to the NCAA semifinals.

Soto remains the No. 2 scorer in Cal State Fullerton history, totaling 96 points and 38 goals from 1992-94 and still holds the single-season record for goals in a season with 18 in 1994.

A search already has begun for a replacement to assist Bob Ammann, who is beginning his first season as head coach at his alma mater. Players are due to report to campus the first week of August.
