Matadors Blank Titans for First Big West Win
Oct. 24, 2007
Northridge, Calif. - Rafael Garcia scored an unassisted goal in the sixth minute of the second half and that was enough to give Cal State Northridge a 1-0 Big West Conference men's soccer victory Wednesday afternoon over visiting Cal State Fullerton. The Matadors, who were playing without Coach Terry Davila and three players due to red cards from their last match in Maryland, improved to 5-3-5 overall and 1-1-3 in the Big West. The Titans fell to 5-8-2 and 1-5-2. Brent Douglas needed to make only 2 saves but the one goal was decisive. Kevin Guppy made 5 saves for the Matadors, who outshot the Titans, 15-13, but put only 3 on goal compared to 5 by Fullerton. The two teams tied two weeks earlier, 1-1, at Fullerton. The Titans are back in action Sunday night at 5 p.m. with a non-conference home match against Cal State Bakersfield. |
