UC Riverside Blanks Titans, 1-0
Oct. 10, 2007
Fullerton, Calif. - Nathan Paterson blasted in a shot from about 35 yards in the 60th minute and that goal stood up for a 1-0 Big West Conference men's soccer victory for UC Riverside Wednesday night at Cal State Fullerton. The win improved UCR's record to 4-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the Big West. It was UCR's first victory since Sept. 9. Fullerton fell to 4-6-1 and 0-3-1 and also lost redshirt freshman Peter Kingman to a fractured right tibia midway through the second half. Paterson's shot carried over the head of CSF goalkeeper Brent Douglas but sailed under the cross bar. Paterson one-timed a touch from Andrew Villalobos after the Titans failed to clear the ball. There were few serious scoring threats as Douglas made only 2 saves and UCR's Charles Alamo had 6 in posting his third shutout. UCR had the best chance in the 29th minute with a flurry of shots and rebounded shots off Douglas and Titan defenders but none found the net. Fullerton played the final 10 minutes down a man after T. J. Detviler received a red card. UCR picked up five cautions on the night and the Titans got two. UCR visits Cal State Northridge Saturday afternoon while the Titans host UC Irvine on Saturday night. |
