Short-Handed Titans Fall to Davis, 1-0

Oct. 8, 2008

Box Score

Fullerton, Calif. - Quincy Amarikwa booted a free kick from just outside the penalty box over the wall and past Cal State Fullerton goalkeeper Kevin Puder near the right post and that goal stood up for a 1-0 Big West Conference men's soccer victory Wednesday night for UC Davis.

The nationally ranked Aggies improved to 10-1-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the Big West while the Titans were shut out for the fifth time in six matches and fell to 3-9-0 and 0-2-0.

Fullerton played a man down for 66 minutes and two men down for the final 16 minutes. The Titans' Mario Alvarez was cited with a red card less than 9 minutes into the match when he fouled Ahmad Hatifie on a play in which the Aggies senior suffered an apparent compound fracture of his lower right leg. The match was delayed 44 minutes and Hatifie was taken away in an ambulance. Nick Posthuma was cited for a second yellow card with about 16 minutes remaining.

Amarikwa's goal was his tenth of the season and came from the middle of the field. The Aggies outshot the undermanned Titans, 14-4. Goalkeeper Ryan McCowan needed to make only one save for his fifth shutout. Fullerton's Puder made 4 saves including a pair of difficult stops of Amarikwa shots.

Fullerton returns to action Saturday night, hosting Cal Poly SLO.
