Portland Hands Titans Second Whitewash in Seattle

Sept. 21, 2008

Box Score

Seattle, WA - Frankie Lopez scored his sixth goal of the young season in the first half and Collen Warner added an insurance tally in the 84th minute Sunday afternoon to give the University of Portland a 2-0 men's soccer victory over Cal State Fullerton in the Husky Fever Tournament.

The Pilots improved to 3-2-2 while the Titans fell to 2-6-0 with their second shutout loss of the tourney, which was won by host Washington at 2-0 with wins over Fullerton and New Mexico.

Lopez intercepted a pass at midfield and outmaneuvered goalkeeper Kevin Puder, who came out to challenge the Pilots' leading scorer in the 19th minute. Warner's goal was a 10-yarder off a cross.

UP goalkeeper Austin Guerrero made 6 saves to log the shutout while Puder made 3.

Fullerton outshot the victors, 17-8, but couldn't find the net.

The host Huskies won the tourney with a come-from-behind, 3-2 overtime victory over New Mexico. Individual honors: Most Outstanding Offensive Player was Collen Warner, of Portland and Most Outstanding Defensive Player was Simon Ejdemyr of New Mexico.

The Titans have only one match this week, visiting 2007 NCAA Tournament participant Bradley on Saturday in Peoria, IL.
