Penn State Hands Titans Second Loss, 2-0

Los Angeles, Calif. - Penn State handed Cal State Fullerton its second consecutive shutout loss to a Big Ten Conference opponent Friday evening when the Nittany Lions beat the Titans, 2-0, at the UCLA Tournament in Westwood. Fullerton falls to 3-2 on the season with this loss following a 4-0 loss on Sunday to Michigan. The Nittany Lions (2-3) took the lead in the second minute of the second half when Vincent Salvatico got his first goal of the year from close range. Penn State got its second goal in the 80th minute when Jacobo Vera beat goalkeeper Kevin Puder from the top of the box. Puder made 3 saves on the night while Penn State's Conrad Taylor needed only one save for a shutout. Fullerton was outshot, 12-5, for the match but had an 8-3 edge in cornerkicks. Penn State was whistled for 22 fouls to only 8 for the Titans. The Titans play again on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. against No. 12-ranked Ohio State, which fell to 3-1-1 after a 3-1 loss to UCLA later Friday night. |
