The Cal State Fullerton men's soccer has added former UC Riverside assistant coach Kyle Schmid to its coaching staff for the 2015 season, head coach George Kuntz announced on Thursday.
No stranger to the Big West Conference, Schmid has spent time at UC Irvine from 2005-2008 as a student-athlete, served as the director of operations at CSUN from 2010-11, and was a key part of the coaching staff at UC Riverside (2013-14) that won the 2014 Big West South Division Regular-Season Championship.
In his senior season, playing for Kuntz at UC Irvine, Schmid led his squad to a Big West Conference Tournament title and an NCAA appearance, while earning All-Big West honors in his final year as an Anteater.
Schmid brings additional professional soccer experience to the Titan coaching staff, signing his first professional contract with the Carolina Railhawks of the North American Soccer League in 2011 and helping his team to the league's regular-season championship.
A 2009 graduate of UC Irvine holds a degree in social ecology and currently holds a USSF "B" License.
"I want to thank George Kuntz, and the administration at Cal State Fullerton for this incredible opportunity to be apart of the Titan athletics family," said Schmid. "I'd also like to thank my wife, Rachel, and my family for all the support they have given me throughout my coaching career. George and Carlos have laid a great foundation during their time here, and I am excited to get started on this journey to help continue the success they had last season for many years to come."
