Jason Drotter enters his ninth season as the Director of Golf and the head coach of the Cal State Fullerton men’s golf program. The Titans won back-to-back Big West Men’s Golf Championships in 2013 & 2014, garnering Drotter back-to-back Big West Coach of the Year honors.
Drotter and the Titans made their first NCAA Regional appearance in 2014 after losing the Big West’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth in a one-hole playoff by two strokes to Pacific in 2013. Drotter led Fullerton as the tenth-seed in the Sugar Grove Regionals to finish in 11th-place among the 14-team postseason tournament in Sugar Grove, Ill., on May 15-17, 2014.
During the 2015-16 season, the Titans posted nine top-10 finishes on the season including two top-fives. They would finish seventh overall at the Big West Championships with freshman Matt Wilson earning Big West Honorable Mention and Mark Jensma earning a spot on the 2015-16 Big West Spring All-Academic Team.
Drotter was appointed director of golf operations in the fall of 2008, and since then has served as head coach for the men’s golf team that was reinstated for the 2009-10 season as the Whittier, Calif., native has won two league championships in just five short years. In addition to two league titles, his student athletes have received eight all-league honors on the green, while his team has earned six Big West All-Academic accolades. In 2014, senior Mark Anguiano was named the Big West Golfer of the Year, the first time a Titan has received the honor since the program’s reinstatement. In addition, in 2013, senior Dakota Duerr was named Cal State Fullerton’s Scholar Athlete of the Year. Also in 2013, the team finished the year ranked No. 72 in the country (Golf Stat), while Fullerton concluded the 2014 season with an improved No. 66 rating.
During the last eight seasons, the Cal State Fullerton men’s golf program has totaled 11 first-place finishes while also claiming one individual title.
After being appointed director of golf operations in 2008, Drotter hired Pearl Sinn-Bonanni to coach the women’s team and now former assistant coach Kathryn Hosch to replace Sinn-Bonanni.
Drotter was manager of Super Sports Golf and Recreation Center in Orange, Calif., and also was the coach of the boys’ and girls’ golf teams at Villa Park High School for six years.
