SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Sophomore transfer Derek Castillo earned first place at the Bill Cullum Invitational at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley Tuesday with a score of 14-under par 202.
Castillo started off the tournament with a score even at par 72 and was tied 23rd after round one. In rounds two and three Castillo shot a 7-under par 65 to move up to first place at the end of round two and control it throughout round three. The first place finish is Castillo's first of his collegiate career.
The Titans as a team finished in fourth place with a score of 6-under par 858. After round one Fullerton was tied for sixth place at 3-over par following round one. However, they greatly improved in round two and three, shooting even at par in round two and shooting a 9-under par 279 in round three which was the best in round three out of the 12-team field.
Fullerton's Matt Wilson finished second on the team and was tied for sixth place overall with a score of 4-under 212. Wilson had his best score of the tournament in round three to move up from 16th to sixth place with a score of 3-under par 69.
Martin Manalo tied for 25th place with a score of 2-over par 218 while Mark Cobey finished tied for 34th with a 4-over par 220. Davis Holeman tied for 41st with a 6-over par 222 and Dalton Daniel finished with a 9-over par 225. CJ Coleman finished tied 58th with a 11-over par 227.
