Titans to Host Folino Invitational

THIS WEEK: After beginning the spring portion of its schedule at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz., the Cal State Fullerton men's golf team returns to Southern California to host the Folino Invitational as one of nine teams competing in the three-day tournament on Feb.17-19 in the City of Industry, Calif.

THE COURSE: The three-day event will be contested at the Industry Hills Golf Club, playing at 7,211 yards from the tournament tees and par 72 for the 54-hole event. Play begins in the morning for the first round on Sunday and will continue Monday for the second round, while concluding on Tuesday.

THE FIELD: Competing alongside the Titans will be squads from CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Oakland University, Sacramento State, UC Irvine, and Utah State.

IN THE RANKINGS: Cal State Fullerton is ranked No. 86 in the nation according to the Golfstat.com NCAA Head-to-Head rankings, facing a field that features one team ranked higher than the Titans: UC Irvine is No. 81, Long Beach State is No. 121, Loyola Marymount is No. 136, Sacramento State is No. 164, Utah State is No. 209, Cal State Northridge is 211, and CSU Bakersfield is No. 256.

According to the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, Fullerton is No. 94 in the nation with only one team in the top 100: UC Irvine (#86), Long Beach State (#107), Oakland University (#141), Loyola Marymount (#143), Sacramento State (#166), Utah State (#196), Cal State Northridge (#219), and CSU Bakersfield (#263).

FOLINO INVITATIONAL: This week will mark the third consecutive year, the Titans' host the Folino Invitational hosted by the Automobile Club of Southern California. Last season, Cal State Fullerton finished in third place with a score of 882 (+18), behind Pepperdine (881, +17), and winner Long Beach State (879, +15).

A LOOK BACK: Fullerton junior Mark Anguiano finished 10th with an overall score of 212 (-1) to lead the Titans to an eighth place finish at the Arizona Intercollegiate at the Golf Club at Vistoso in Tucson, Ariz. on Jan 28-29, 2013. The Titans shot an 872 to finish 20-over par, while New Mexico walked away with the victory after finishing the tournament with a score of 844 (-8). The Lobos final round on Tuesday was a score of 281 (-2). New Mexico was followed by TCU (846, -6), California (847, -5), and Arizona State (851, -1). Anguiano shot a team best of 68 twice in the second and third round. Sophomore Ryan Tetrault (222, +9) ended the tournament tied for 39th after recording a score of 78 on Tuesday. Junior Corey Gard shot 81 (+10) on Wednesday and ended the tournament 10-over par to tie for 45th in the standings. Redshirt freshman Mark Jensma also tied for 45th place (223, +10). Fullerton senior Dakota Duerr finished nine-over par overall after withdrawing from the second round on Monday.


MAKING HIS MARK:
Mark Anguiano has shot at least 70 or under in every tournament during the 2012-13 season. In three of his last four rounds, Anguiano has shot under 70 (69, 76, 68, 68). His scoring average, 73.20, is third best on the team and has played in all five tournaments this season.

YOU CAN DUERR IT: Junior Dakota Duerr led the Titans during the fall with a 72.58 scoring average and fourth-place finishes in the Firestone Grill Invitational in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash.

• Mark Anguiano posted a 68 in the second and third round during the Arizona Intercollegiate, marking the first time a Titan has shot back-to-back rounds of 68 in a tournament.

• Anguiano shot the fourth lowest 54-hole individual score (212) since the program's reinstatement in 2009. Anguiano owns the best 54-hole individual score when he shot a 208 at the Big West Championships on April 29-May 1, 2012.
