Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton junior guard Kwame Vaughn today was selected the Big West Conference men's basketball player of the week for his efforts in wins over Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara.
It's the first such honor for a Titan player this season despite some consistently glossy offensive numbers.
Vaughn (Oakland, Calif.), a transfer from Univ. of San Francisco, had the highest point total of the season for a Big West player and tied for the fifth highest total in Titan history with his 37-point effort against the Gauchos on Saturday night. He made 11 of 15 shots including 5 of 7 3-point tries and all 10 of his free throws. He also had 6 assists and 6 rebounds in the 99-86 win over UCSB, which hadn't allowed 99 points since a loss at North Carolina on Dec. 22, 2007.
On Thursday night, Vaughn flirted with a triple-double with 14 points, a season-high 9 assists and 7 rebounds in an 83-61 win over Cal Poly.
Fullerton (15-7, 7-3) tries to take over undisputed possession of second place plus complete a season sweep of UC Irvine and clinch a winning season when it hosts the Anteaters on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. in Titan Gym.
