Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton senior guard Frank Robinson today was selected the Big West Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in road wins at Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge. He is the first Titan to be so honored this season.
Robinson's averages were modest by his standards -- 16 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists -- and basically identical to teammate Scott Cutley, who played through a collision and the stomach flu at CSUN. But Robinson scored the key points in both wins.
At Long Beach, he personally stretched a 6-point CSF lead early in the second half to 13 points with seven unanswered points and added two more to complete an 11-3 run for a 14-point advantage. Long Beach never got as close as single digits again.
At Northridge, he tied the game at 68-68 with a few minutes to play and his 3-pointer with 47 seconds left gave the Titans a 4-point lead. He added two late free throws in the 80-72 win over the previously unbeaten Matadors.
Fullerton plays at UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly this week before ending its Big West schedule in Orange County with four home games and a contest at UC Irvine.
