Long Beach, Calif. - Freshman guard Mike Caffey came off the bench to score 9 points Saturday night to lead Long Beach State to a 39-32 halftime lead over Cal State Fullerton in a game airing live on ESPNU.

The teams traded baskets for the first 10 minutes with Fullerton's biggest lead 3 points and Long Beach's 5 before they were tied at 20-20 at 9:58. Long Beach edged away to lead by as many as 8 points at 36-28.
Fullerton has 10 turnovers to 9 for the 49ers, who lead in rebounds, 20-17.
Player of the Year Casper Ware has only 3 points on 1-for-4 shooting but Caffey picked up the slack.
Fullerton made 7 of its first 12 shots but the next 7 makes took 20 attempts for an overall mark of 44 percent. Long Beach is shooting 52 percent.
