Edwardsville, IL -
D. J. Seeley scored 25 points and three teammates also were in double figures Saturday afternoon as Cal State Fullerton snapped a 3-game losing streak with a 79-57 non-conference victory at SIU-Edwardsville.
The Titans (4-3) got a game-high 12 rebounds from Omondi Amoke to pace a decisive 40-24 advantage on the boards over the Cougars (1-5), who were led by Mark Yelovich's 14 points. Yelovich, who had 32 points against the Titans two years ago in an ESPN Bracket Buster game, made only 5 of 15 shots Saturday.
The Titans made 10 of 21 3-point field goal attempts including four each by Seeley and Isiah Umipig, who finished with 18 points. Kwame Vaughn added 15 points and Andre Hardy had a season-high 10 points.
"It was a really good win for us on the road," said Coach Bob Burton. "It was the best defensive and offensive effort to date.
"Our guys really worked as a team on both ends of the court. We did a great job sharing the ball and helping each other on defense with the rotations and help.
"For the first time all year I feel we are healty and that really showed today."
Fullerton jumped out to a 20-5 lead after less than 7 minutes. The Cougars got as close as 3 points at 29-26 with 6:38 left in the half after two Derian Shaffer free throws but the Titans finished the half with an 8-4 run for a 7-point halftime lead. A 7-0 spurt featuring buckets by Vaughn, Seeley (trey) and Hardy opened an 11-point lead at 52-41 with 12:50 left and the Cougars never got closer than 9 points again.
Fullerton shot 50 percent (25 of 50) from the floor and a season-best 79 percent (19 of 24) at the foul line.
Including the 78-74 home win over SIUE on Feb. 20, 2010, this win completes the first sweep for the Titans of a Bracket Buster opponent.
Fullerton will play at Utah on Wednesday before coming home for the balance of the December schedule.
