Brookings, SD - Jamaal Brown scored 15 points and grabbed 9 rebounds and Bobby Brown had 17 points and 5 assists Monday night as Cal State Fullerton remained unbeaten with an 82-70 win at South Dakota State. The Titans haven't been 3-0 since 1989-90 when Coach John Sneed's team with senior Cedric Ceballos opened up 5-0.

South Dakota State, in its second year of Div. I play, fell to 1-4 despite 26 points and 6 rebounds from guard Matt Cadwell.

The game was delayed 30 minutes so that three local officials could be utilized when the scheduled crew was stranded due to icy road conditions to the south.

Three other Titans were in double figures as Jermaine Harper, Jerard Moret and Frank Robinson each scored 11 points. Harper got all of his in the first 10 minutes as the Titans opened a 27-12 lead. Harper hit consecutive 3-pointers and 3-of-3 free throws to turn a 5-5 tie into a 14-5 Fullerton lead. The TItans' biggest first-half lead was 20 and they settled for a 49-30 lead at the end of the first half in which they made 8 of 12 3-point field goals.

South Dakota State rallied behind Cadwell in the second half despite losing leading scorer Steve Holdren to a knee injury late in the first half. Holdren was averaging 16.5 points and had 6 when he went down after making a driving layup.

The Jackrabbits cut a 58-36 deficit to 61-44 and then used a 10-0 run midway through the half to pull within 61-54 with 10:23 to play. They never got closer but Fullerton couldn't relax until Jamaal Brown tore a rebound away from an SDSU defender and made a layup for a 77-64 lead with 2:24 remaining.

"I thought South Dakota State made a great effort," said Fullerton Coach Bob Burton. "If Holdren doesn't get hurt, they probably win the game. But this is a difficult place to play beyond the obvious factors tonight so we're very happy with a win on the road."

The Titans got a solid contribution from their bench. With Burns picking up two fouls in the first 90 seconds, Adam Tancredi got extended playing time and matched Jamaal Brown with 9 rebounds as well as hitting a pair of 3-point field goals in his 20 minutes of action. Robinson came off the bench for his 11 points and Gary Nunez scored 4 points in 4 minutes.

Fullerton will host South Dakota State in the regular season finale on March 5. Wednesday night the Titans are scheduled to play at Kansas State but weather conditions may prevent them from leaving Brookings as scheduled on Tuesday morning.
