Nov. 10, 2006

Box Score

Fullerton, Calif. - Sophomore Chris Minardo scored 20 points and senior Justin Burns had 18 points and a game-high 11 rebounds Friday night as Cal State Fullerton cruised to a season-opening 108-56 victory over California Maritime Academy.

The winning margin of 52 points equalled the Fullerton school record, set in a 91-39 win over Seattle University on Dec. 16, 1985.

Junior Will Williams came off the bench to lead the NAIA Keelhaulers (1-3) with 19 points.

Fullerton had six players score in double figures. Marcus Crenshaw matched Burns with 18 points. Ray Reed had 16 points, Andrew Green had 14 and 10 rebounds and Kenneth Alexander added 12 points. The Titans jumped out to a 9-0 lead, led by double digits for the final 35 minutes of the game and held a 48-28 halftime lead. The biggest advantage was 53 points at 96-43 with 7:32 to play.

Minardo hit four 3-point baskets in the first 8 minutes of the game, the fourth one putting the Titans ahead, 23-7, with 12:49 to go in the first half. He finished 4 of 8.

Fullerton doubled up the visitors on the backboards with a 49-25 advantage and won the turnover battle, 27 to 14.

Fullerton was playing without starters Bobby Brown, Frank Robinson and Scott Cutley, suspended for the first three games due to a misuse of book vouchers.

Fullerton hosts another NAIA institution in Hope International on Tuesday night.
