FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton men's basketball junior guard Khalil Ahmad collected his second Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week award this season after averaging 26.5 points on 70.4% shooting in a pair of Titan victories last weekend.
Ahmad was on fire for the Titans as he scored 20+ points for the seventh and eighth times this season in a 75-59 win over Cal Poly and a 68-66 triumph at UC Davis. The Titans swept the season series against Cal Poly for the first time since 2010 and swept UC Davis for the first time since 2008.
Ahmad shot a remarkable 70.4% (19-of-27) from the floor overall, including five made three-pointers (in 10 attempts) while sinking all but one of his 11 free throw tries.
His 31-point performance at UC Davis – aided by 11-of-15 shooting – gave him entry into the 1,000-point career scoring club. Ahmad became the 24th player in school history to achieve the feat as he completed the week at 1,022 career points.
Ahmad hit four three-pointers against the Aggies – the seventh time this year he has knocked down at least that many treys.
Ahmad also scored 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting against Cal Poly. He went 5-of-5 from the free throw line and dished out a season-high four assists.
The squad resumes Big West play on Saturday to host Cal State Northridge at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN3.
