Golf Tournament Raises $26,000 for Men's Basketball Program
FULLERTON, Calif. -- Joined on the course by members of the coaching staff and student-athletes, supporters of the Cal State Fullerton men's basketball program came together to net over $26,000 in support of the team at the Fullerton Men's Basketball Golf Invitational Presented by Nike at the Hacienda Golf Club on Monday (Aug. 19) afternoon.
"First and foremost, probably the two words that I have uttered quite often since we've been here, they are truly significant to me, and they are the only two words that, I think, are extremely important, are 'thank you,'" Head Coach Dedrique Taylor said to the assembled supporters at a post-tournament banquet. "The guys that are in this room, the student-athletes that you are supporting, are the most important people in this room so, I'd like to also say 'thank you' on their behalf."
Thanks to donations, sponsorship opportunities, raffle drawings, and proceeds from the silent auction, this year's event netted the largest total in the history of the three-year-old tournament. The field hit the links on a picturesque Southern California afternoon as the foursome led by Jim Corbett, Associate Director of Facilities Operations at Cal State Fullerton, and his son, Ryan, (pictured) won the event with a scramble score of 11-under.
"This was an outstanding event to showcase Cal State Fullerton men's basketball and the athletic department," Athletic Director Jim Donovan said. "It was a great opportunity to showcase the caliber of student-athlete in our men's basketball program to our donors, allow them to get up-close and personal, get to know our players and staff, and really begin to build a sense of community around our programs.
"We would also like to thank the Hacienda Golf Club for their hospitality and helping us put on a first-rate event. Hopefully, it is a relationship we can build on for many years to come."
