Titans Ink Three During Early Signing Period

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Cal State Fullerton Interim Head Coach Andy Newman announced, Tuesday, that junior college guard Kerry Carter, along with high school forwards Daniel Young and Chaunce Hill, have signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at Cal State Fullerton.

"I'm really excited to announce this years early signing class," Newman said. "We added some much-needed size, toughness, and athleticism with this group. Most important, we are getting three guys from three of the best basketball programs around. Citrus College, Fairfax High School, and Valley High School have had a long tradition of winning and producing high-character student-athletes."

Carter, a 6-foot-2 guard from West Covina, is entering his sophomore year at Citrus College in Glendora after averaging 12.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a freshman en route to All-Western State Conference South Division Honorable Mention honors. He shot .469 from the field in just over 26 minutes per game while blocking 22 shots and swiping 54 steals. Carter was a two-time All-San Antonio League honoree at West Covina High School, including first-team honors as a senior.

"Kerry is an athletic guard that has an unprecedented level of toughness that will make him an immediate contributor to next years team," Newman said. "He is coming from a great California community college program in Citrus College and is about all the right things. Kerry is a prolific scorer who can shoot the three as well as take it to the rim. I can't wait for him to join our program next year. "

Young, a 6-foot-8 shot-blocking power forward from Valley High School in Las Vegas, is entering his senior season after averaging 7.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game as a junior while helping the Vikings to a 22-7 record, a Northeast League title, and a berth in the Sunrise Region semifinals.

"Daniel is another long and athletic post player that will fortify our front line for the next four years," Newman said. "His basketball ceiling is through the roof. He has all the tools to be a dominant post player in this league and his athleticism and ability to run the floor will be very valuable to us. I'm really looking forward to what Daniel will bring to this program in years to come."

Hill, a 6-foot-6 power forward from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles, was a CIty Section Second-Team choice as a sophomore while helping the Lions to a 20-10 overall record and a 10-2 mark to tie for the top spot in the Western League while also earning All-CIF Los Angeles Section Division I Second-Team honors as a junior.

"Chaunce is an athletic post player who plays as hard as anyone we've brought into this program," Newman said. "His motor is always running on high and his rebounding prowess will be a much-needed addition to next year's team. Chaunce's toughness will allow him to make an immediate impact for us."
