Baseball Signs 10 to National Letters of Intent

Eight high school and two JC players are on tap for the Titans in 2011

Fullerton, Calif. - Third-year Cal State Fullerton baseball Head Coach Dave Serrano announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to national letters of intent during the early signing period that ran from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18.

The Titans inked eight high schoolers and two community college students who wish to continue their baseball careers with the Titans. The group includes five pitchers, two infielders and three two-way players (2 outfielders and an infielder) that can both play the field as well as pitch.

"I am very pleased with the quality of this signing class that Sergio Brown (recruiting coordinator), Greg Bergeron (assistant coach) and the rest of the staff have put together for 2011." said Serrano. "We feel we have addressed our needs for the future, taking in to consideration those leaving our program in 2010 and have secured some talented help on the mound as well as some skilled infielders and outfielders."

The Titans will have another opportunity to address any other needs that may arise during the late signing period from Apr. 14 to Aug. 1, 2010.

Below are the 10 early signees in alphabetical order.

Christian Coronado (RHP, 6-2, 180, R/R, Hemet HS)
• Three-year letterman for the Bulldogs and Head Coach Mike Arnold
• Was 4-2 with a 2.52 ERA, 1 save, and 53 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched in 2009
• All-Sunbelt League First Team in 2009
• All-Sunbelt League Second Team in 2008
• Plays for the New York Yankees Scout Team

Nicholas Hurtado (LHP, 6-2, 190, L/L Santiago HS)
• Four-year letterman for the Sharks and Head Coach Ty De Trinidad
• 2009 All-Mountain View League Second Team
• Played in the 2009 North-South Series
• Has played three years for the Kansas City Royals Scout Team

Michael Lorenzen (OF/RHP, 6-3, 180, R/R, Fullerton HS)
• Four-year varsity letterman for the Indians and Head Coach Marc Price
• Hit .451 (7 HR, 30 RBI) in 2009 to win the Freeway League batting title
• 2009 AFLAC All-American
• 2009 Baseball America Top 30 High School Prospect
• All-Orange County second team
• Member of the Brewers Area Code Team
• Member of the Angel Elite Team
• 2008 All-CIF First Team
• All-Freeway League First Team in 2007 and 2008

Christian Meza (LHP, 6-0, 180, L/L, Santa Ana College)
• Was 11-1 with 91 strikeouts in 94 innings in 2009 for the Dons and coaching legend Don Sneddon (former Titan assistant)
• Helped lead the Dons the California State Finals in 2009
• 2009 JC All-American and Orange Empire Conference Pitcher of the Year
• 2009 All-State First Team
• Was an All-Empire League first teamer at Loara HS for Head Coach Dave Lappin

Alex Palsha (RHP, 6-1, 190, R/R, San Ramon Valley HS)
• Led the East Bay Athletic League with a .471 batting average and was 4-2 on the mound for the Wolves and Head Coach Chris deClercq in 2009
• 2009 All-East Bay Athletic League First Team
• Averaged 1.63 strikeouts in 2009

Bijan Rademacher (OF/LHP, 5-10, 170, L/L, Canyon HS)
• Hit .338 with 25 hits and 2 HR at the plate and posted a 1.45 ERA on the mound in 2009 for the Comanches and Head Coach Joe Hoggatt
• Plays for the Atlanta Braves Scout Team

Joe Terry (2B/3B, 5-10, 180, L/R, Cerritos College)
• Will be a sophomore for the Falcons and Head Coach Jack Brooks in 2010
• 2009 JC All-American and South Coast Conference Player of the Year
• Selected in the 17th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft Seattle in `09
• 2009 All-Southern California JC first team
• 2009 All-State First Team
• Hit .426 w/57 RBI's and 50 runs scored
• Broke the Falcons' single-season triples record with 14 in 2009
• Was a two-time All-Moore League first teamer at Long Beach Poly HS

Vincent Velasquez (SS, 6-2, 180, R/R, Garey HS)
• MVP of the Vikings for Head Coach Monse Estrada
• Three-time All-Mt. Baldy League First Team infielder
• Member of the Milwaukee Brewers Area Code Team
• Has participated in the Lasorda Elite Games with the Angel Elite Team

Chad Wallach (3B/RHP, 6-3, 205, Calvary Chapel HS)
• Hit .400 with 6 HR and 33 RBI at the plate and was 8-2 on the mound with 55 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched in 2009 for the Eagles and Head Coach Doug Adams
• 2009 All-Orange Coast League First Team
• Has played for the New York Yankees' Scout Team for two years
• Is the brother of former Titan, Matt Wallach, and the son of former Titan Hall of Famer and major league All-Star, Tim Wallach

Grahamm Wiest (RHP, 6-0, 175, R/R, JSerra HS)
• Three-year letterman for the Lions and Head Coach (former Titan catcher) Brett Kay
• 2008 and 2009 All-Trinity League First Team
• Was 6-3 with 56 strikeouts and a 1.66 ERA in 70 innings and led JSerra to just its second-ever CIF playoff appearance in 2009
