Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton rightfielder Jared Clark's RBI-double to center off Bryan Harris broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh as the Blue squad defeated the Orange, 3-1, in an intrasquad scrimmage on Family Fun Day. The eight-inning affair completed the Titans' fall practice period at Goodwin Field Saturday afternoon.
Right-handers Jeff Kaplan, Travis Kelly and Adam Jorgenson held the Orange squad hitless for 6 1/3 innings before Nick Mahin's infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning broke up the no-hitter. Shortstop Joel Weeks would provide the Orange team's only other hit on the afternoon, doubling off of Ryan Ackland with two outs in the bottom of the final frame.
The Orange team used a pair of errors, charged to the Blue team's defense, a sacrifice bunt and an RBI-ground out by Mahin to manufacture their only run of the scrimmage.
Clark's game-winning double came with no outs in the seventh Curtis aboard on a walk. The senior catchers wheeled all the way around to score on hard line drive that that got over Clark Hardman's head in center. Clark would score two batters later on a scoring ground-out by Nate Bridges.
Michael Morrison and Brendan each pitched three innings apiece, with Morrison surrendering the only run through the first six innings, the solo homer to Curtis.
Harris surrendered two runs in his only inning of work for the Orange side, while redshirt freshman Sean Urena pitched a scoreless eighth despite walking a pair of Blue batters.
Both Vasquez and Matt Wallach led all players with a pair of hits.
Cal State Fullerton baseball will return to Goodwin Field in January, gearing up for the 2007 season that begins for real Feb. 2, 2007 against long-time rival Stanford at Goodwin Field.
Prior to that, the Titans will have an exhibition with the pro-alumni on Jan. 27 at 1 p.m.
