POSTGAME QUOTES - SUPER REGIONAL GAME 2

June 9, 2008

FULLERTON, CA - Postgame quotes from players and coaches following Stanford's 8-5 victory over host Cal State Fullerton in the second game of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Super Regionals at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, CA.

CAL STATE FULLERTON HEAD COACH Dave Serrano
"I want to congratulate Stanford... they played excellent baseball and are well deserved to go on to Omaha.

"In this program we'll always believe we came up short unless we are in Omaha playing for the national championship... I'm disappointed for these young men who worked hard all year long. It's unfortunate for the older guys. We'll be back in this situation again and hopefully will get the job done.

"Castro is a great player. He came through for them in the clutch. It's what superstars do. He hit a good pitch.

"When it counted today, we didn't get it done. We didn't take advantage of some opportunities and that hurt us."

CAL STATE FULLERTON OUTFIELDER Erik Komatsu
(on Wilson's drive in sixth inning): "It was tough. We wanted to capitalize on it. The ball was smoked... there's nothing you can do."

(about coming back for his senior year): "I've got to think about what's best for me. I love this team and it was a pleasure to be coached by this staff."

CAL STATE FULLERTON PITCHER Cory Arbiso
(on Stanford lineup): "I faced them earlier in the year. They are a good swinging team. I threw some quality pitches and they got down and got it. They moved runners over. They battled."

CAL STATE FULLERTON OUTFIELDER Josh Fellhauer
"It's very disappointing. Every year we have high expectations. We have a lot of young guys and a lot of talent.

(on Stanford's early lead): "One run is not a big deal. We finally got some momentum and threw up some zeroes."

STANFORD HEAD COACH MARK MARQUESS
"We're obviously thrilled. It was a great game and a great effort. This team did not have high expectations at the start of the year. We were justifiably picked for sixth in the Pac-10.

"Today Erik (Davis) didn't have his good stuff... we wanted to save Austin for tomorrow but I told him you're starting today with a 1-run lead and he liked that.

"I have a lot of respect for Fullerton. We like to play them every year. If you don't know how to play the game, they will embarrass you.

(on keys to late-season run): "No. 1 has been our defense... like the last play of the game. We've been hitting in the clutch... long balls and big hits. Getting Jeremy back."

STANFORD CATCHER JASON CASTRO
(on his double): "I just wanted to see a good pitch and get something I could drive. I fouled off a couple. They had a shift on and I tried to stay inside the ball and drive it that way."

STANFORD PITCHER AUSTIN YOUNT
(on the CWS): "It's one of those things you dream about. When I was in high school, it seemed like Stanford was there every year. I'm excited to go."
