Irvine, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton right-hander Daniel Ranken (9-2, 3.96 ERA) was named this week's Co-Big West Conference Pitcher of the week for his complete-game shutout over cross-town rival Long Beach State last Saturday afternoon.
In his finest performance of the year, the junior from Cypress scattered eight hits and struck out six without a walk to help secure the Titans' series win over the 49ers. In the process, Renken lowered his ERA from 4.49 to 3.96.
The lanky right-hander has won 7 consecutive starts, all of which have come in Big West play. With the win, Renken now shares the Big West Conference lead in victories with 9. He caught an idle Daniel Bibona (UC Irvine), who missed a start due to an injury.
By going the whole way on Saturday, Renken completed the fifth game of his career, and notched his second career complete-game shutout.
This is Renken's third career pitcher of the week nod and first this season. He has shared the honor twice, this week, he and Irvine freshman Evan Brock split the award. Brock had save against UCLA and a win over UC Santa Barbara, allowing just 2 hits and a run over 9.0 total innings. He struck out seven and walked three on the week.
