Colon, Brown Named Preseason All-Americans by Baseball America
Feb. 5, 2010
Durham, NC - Cal State Fullerton standouts Christian Colon (SS, Corona, Calif., Canyon HS) and Gary Brown (CF, Diamond Bar, Calif. Diamond bar HS) will both begin their junior seasons as Baseball America preseason All-Americans as announced by the Durham-based publication Friday morning.
Colon was tabbed as a first-team shortstop while Brown was listed as a second-team outfielder in the three-team crop of the nation's best players.
Colon and Alabama second baseman Ross Wilson are the only two repeat preseason All-Americans from the 2009 list. Colon was a third-teamer last season and Wilson is a back-to-back first-team selection.
Last September both Colon and Brown were listed as two of Baseball America's Top 25 college draft prospects for this season's Major League Baseball draft.
Colon and Brown turned down professional contracts out of high school to join the Titans in 2007 and look to improve their draft status with solid 2010 campaigns. Colon was a 10th round draft pick for the San Diego Padres, while Brown was taken in the 12th by the Oakland A's.
The two were named "high impact athletes" and were also tabbed the Titans' two top recruits back in Oct. of 2007 by Baseball America. The eighth-ranked `07 class also featured right-handed pitcher Daniel Renken, who Baseball America named the team's top pitching prospect.
Colon is a two-time US National team member and a career .343 hitter. He has started in all but one game in his Titan career. He batted .357 with eight home runs and 40 RBI last season in helping to lead the Titans to the College World Series for the fifth time in the last seven year and earned All-American status along the way.
Brown is a career .319 hitter with eight home runs and 67 RBI in his two year career in Fullerton. More impressively, the fleet-footed outfielder has stolen 48 bases in 59 career attempts over 124 games. Brown has performed well both in the spring and in the summer, and was named to the Cap Cod League's All-Star team last summer. Last season the versatile defender hit .340 with 17 double and seven triples to go along with three long balls for the Titans.
Colon (NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball) and Brown (Collegiate Baeball) have already been recognized as 2010 preseason All-Americans by other organizations.
The Titans begin the 2010 season On Feb. 19.
