Durham, NC - Cal State Fullerton will begin the 2011 season as the No. 8 team in the nation according to Baseball America, as its annual preseason rankings were released Thursday morning.

The Titans jumped up three spots in the publications rankings over the offseason with a Top 10 recruiting class and a solid core of returners including Baseball America third-team All-American pitcher Noe Ramirez and second-team Freshman All-American right-hander Dylan Floro.

Florida returns five players that earned Freshman All-American status a season ago, and sit atop the preseason poll for the first time in school history.

Five of the Titans 2011 opponents have made their way into the rankings accounting for 11 of the Titans' 56-game slate. The Titans will have two games with No. 2 UCLA (Mar. 29 at Goodwin Field, May 17 in Los Angeles), a weekend series with No. 3 TCU (Feb. 25-27 in Fort Worth, Tex.), a two-game midweek series with No. 11 Arizona State (Mar. 22 and 23 at Goodwin Field), and a weekend series with No. 22 LSU immediately followed by a Tuesday game with No. 21 Texas A&M (Mar. 11-13 in Baton Rouge, La., and Mar. 15 in College Station, Tex.).

The Titans were the only team representing the Big West Conference, but are one of 7 representing the West. The other six, come from the Pac-10 Conference (UCLA, Arizona State, No. 13 Stanford, No. 14 Oregon, No. 17 Cal, and No. 19 Arizona), which paced the nation.

The Titans open the 2011 season on Friday, Feb. 18, with a non-conference series against the 49ers of Long Beach State. Friday and Sunday will be played at Long Beach's Blair Field. Saturday the Titans will host both North Carolina and Long Beach in a day-night twin bill.
