Titans are Baseball America's No. 25 Team

Jan. 24, 2012

Fullerton, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton will begin the 2012 season as the 25th-ranked team in the nation according to Durham-based publication Baseball America.

The Titans will play 13 games against Baseball America's preseason Top 25 including an opening weekend three-game road series with the nation's top team, Florida. The slate will also included three games in College Station, Tex., with No. 7 Texas A&M, two midweek match-ups with both No. 14 UCLA and No. 17 Arizona State and a three-game home series with No. 15 TCU.

According to number-crunching BoydsWorld.com, the Titans have the the best non-conference schedule in the country, ranking first in its preseason intended strength of schedule. They come in with the 16th strongest schedule overall.

New Head Coach Rick Vanderhook has inherited a strong, athletic core of position players, but will have to rely on a very young and inexperienced pitching staff to get them through the very demanding non conference schedule. Dylan Floro (Jr. RHP, Merced, Calif.), one of just two returning pitchers from 2011, will lead the charge as the Friday night starter.

Juniors Ivory Thomas (Jr., OF, Los Angeles, Calif.), Richy Pedroza (Jr., INF, Covina, Calif.) and Austin Kingsolver (Jr., OF, Dana Point, Calif.) will figure to be key table-setters in the 2012 line-up with Carlos Lopez (Jr., 1B, Northridge, Calif.), Michael Lorenzen (So., OF, Anaheim, Calif.) and rookie J.D. Davis (Fr., INF, Elk Grove, Calif.) projected to be the run producers from the middle of the line-up.

In all, the Titans have 16 returning letterman and two other players with squad experience. Of the 17 newcomers, all but three are freshman.

No. 25 Cal State Fullerton will take on No. 1 Florida on Feb. 17, 18 and 19 in Gainesville, Fla., to open the 2012 season and will return to Southern California for their home opener on Feb. 24 against No. 15 TCU.

Individual game tickets for all Titan games at Goodwin Field are now available at fullertontitans.com. Season tickets and special packages can be purchased by calling the Cal State Fullerton Athletic Ticket Office at (657) 278-CSUF.
