McLean, VA - In the fourth of five major college baseball polls, USA Today released the 2009 USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches poll which has the Titans ranking 8th in the nation according to 31 participating NCAA Div. I coaches.
The Titans received 507 total points (based on 25 points for a first-place pick, and 1 point for a 25th-place pick) and finished behind LSU (No. 1, 738 pts.), North Carolina (No.2, 737 pts.), Rice (No. 3, 673 pts.), Georgia (No. 4, 600 pts.), Texas A&M (No. 5, 590 pts.), Stanford (No. 6, 576 pts.) and Arizona State (No. 7, 533 pts.). Florida State and Texas tied for the No. 9 spot (500 pts.) to round out the Top 10 according to the coaches.
The Titans will play 15 games (versus seven teams) against USA Today/ESPN Preseason Top 25 teams in 2009.
The first USA Today/ESPN regular-season poll will be released Monday, March 2.
The USA TODAY/ESPN Board of Coaches is made up of 31 coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the American Baseball Coaches Association.
