UCLA Takes Control of Regional in 11-4 Victory

FULLERTON, CA - Casey Haerker and Brandon Crawford homered as No. 2-seeded UCLA overpowered No. 1-seeded Cal State Fullerton, 11-4, Saturday night to remain the only unbeaten team in the NCAA Baseball Regional. Fullerton (38-20) faces Virginia in an elimination game Sunday at 4 p.m. with the survivor facing UCLA (33-25) at 8 p.m. in a possible championship game. Haerker hit a 2-run home run with two out in the first and Jermaine Curtis' 2-run double keyed a 3-run second inning. Crawford led off the third with a solo home run and his 2-run double was the key hit in a 3-run fourth inning against reliever Travis Kelly. Fullerton starter Jeff Kaplan (11-2) was tagged for 7 runs (6 earned) in 3 innings. UCLA starter Charles Brewer (9-4) went five innings and allowed 3 runs. Jason Novak pitched the final four innings to pick up his fourth save. Fullerton had beaten UCLA three times in three regular-season meetings. |
