Fullerton, Calif. - Left fielder Jason Coats had four hits and scored four times Sunday afternoon as TCU erupted late for an 8-1 victory to earn a split of a doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton.

The Titans won the morning opener, 6-4, for their only win of the series. No. 11-ranked TCU is now 5-1 while the No. 8 Titans are 2-4.

Shortstop Taylor Featherstone's first hit of the series broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and TCU scored four more times for a 5-run inning against starter and loser Tyler Pill (1-1). Two singles around a walk loaded the bases with no outs. Featherstone singled for one run and one out later Aaron Schultz hit a sacrifice fly to center. Kyle Von Tungeln singled to make it 4-1 and chase Pill. Reliever Colin O'Connell gave up a two-run double to catcher Bryan Holaday.

In his next at bat, Featherstone delivered a 2-out, RBI single in the seventh and the Horned Frogs squeezed across their final run in the ninth. Kyle Winkler (2-0) went 6-plus innnings for the win.

TCU took a 1-0 lead in the second on a single, sacrifice and single by Joe Weik. Fullerton matched that run in the bottom half but Winkler got off lightly. An error, a hit batsman and a bunt single loaded the bases with no outs. Nick Ramirez scored from third as Billy Marcoe grounded into a double play before Anthony Hutting flied to left.

Fullerton left Gary Brown at third with one out in the third inning and left four other runners at third. The Titans hit into three none-out double plays.

Nick Ramirez was the pitching and hitting star of the opener. He tossed three innings of shutout relief to get the save, allowing two hits. Offensively, his sacrifice fly broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth and he singled home an insurance run with two out in the eighth.

Gary Brown doubled to lead off the CSF sixth, was sacrificed to third and scored on Ramirez' fly ball to center. In the eighth, Brown singled was sacrificed to second and scored on Ramirez' hit to center.

TCU fought back from a 4-2 deficit after three innings with solo home runs by Matt Curry in the fourth and Coats in the fifth, both off starter Noe Ramirez. He allowed six hits, walked two and struck out seven before leaving after five innings in favor of winner David Hurlbut (1-0), who worked one inning plus. Paul Gerrish (0-1), the third TCU pitcher, took the loss.

Fullerton scored thee times in the third against TCU starter Matt Purke. Joey Siddons led off with a single and came home on a double by Christian Colon. A hit batter and walk loaded the bases. Walker Moore, who doubled home the Titans' first run in the second, singled for the second run and Ivory Thomas drew a two-out walk for the third run.

Fullerton hosts University of San Diego Tuesday night.
