Titans Take Series From Frogs with 7-4 Win

Feb. 24, 2008

Box Score

Fort Worth, TX - No. 15 Cal State Fullerton used late-inning heroics by Shevis Shima (pinch-hit double) and a squeeze bunt from Joel Weeks in the top of the eighth inning to take the series with a 7-4 win over TCU Sunday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.

The Titans (2-1) and Horned Frogs (1-2) set a TCU series record with 7,486 fans enjoying the three-game set at Lupton Stadium.

With the game tied at 4-4, the Titans went to pinch hitter Shima, who delivered a sharp line drive to left-center that he legged for a double to lead off the eighth inning off TCU hurler Dillon Farrish. After a passed ball that moved Shima to third, Weeks, greeted new pitcher Andrew Cashner with a bunt to the right side of the mound scoring Shima with the game-winner.

Farrish faced just one batter but picked up the loss, falling to 0-1.

Josh Fellhauer's first home run of the year, and a bases loaded straight steal of home by Jeff Newman gave Fullerton two much needed insurance runs in the ninth.

Brian Wilson picked up his first win, tossing the final 2.1 innings, surrendering just two hits.

Titan starter Adam Jorgenson pitched 4.1 innings, and was cruising along until the fifth when TCU batted around scoring three runs to tie the game. The first four Frogs reached base off Jorgenson, then after a strikeout, first baseman Matt Vern singled home two ending Jorgenson's day on the hill.

Freshman Jason Dovel, and sophomore Ryan Ackland stumped the Frog offense for 2.1 innings, with Dovel pitching out of a second-and-third, one-out jam in the fifth.

Second baseman, Gary Brown, made his first start of the year, and capitalized with a pair of RBI to lead the way for Fullerton. Fellhauer led all players with three hits on the day, giving him a team-leading seven on the weekend.

The Titans will play Tuesday at home against LMU. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Michael Morrison is the probable starter for that game.
