Jake Silverman will get his collegiate coaching feet wet in 2009 as the Titans' undergraduate assistant coach. The Cal State Fullerton senior makes the transition from player to coach after one season on the Titan roster as a catcher in 2008. A spirited and highly regarded teammate, Silverman brings great pride and enthusiasm to the coaching staff and, among other duties, will assist Head Coach Dave Serrano in the bullpen. Silverman, 22, has been coaching Mickey Mantle teams for the past five years and has most recently worked the Titan Baseball Elite camps while coaching some local Little League teams with Titan assistant coach Brett Lindgren. As a Titan, Silverman got into one game in his career as a pinch hitter at Pepperdine on Mar. 18, 2008. Prior to that, he played two seasons for Head Coach Nick Fuscardo down the road at Fullerton College where he went 7-for-20 (.350) in 16 games in 2006 as a freshman and made two starts in 14 games in 2007. There he won the Art Nunn award in 2007 for exemplary acts on and off the field. The Orange, Calif., native prepped at Foothill High School in Tustin, Calif., and is currently working towards a bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in broadcast journalism. He is expected to graduate in the spring. |
