ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Cal State Fullerton (5-7) dropped game two of the three-game series against New Mexico, 17-11, Saturday afternoon and Santa Ana Star Field.
The Titans and Lobos (10-4) finished the last 2.2 innings of the first game of the series after the contest was suspended Friday night due to weather.
After dropping the first game, Fullerton got off to a strong start in game two, scoring three runs in the first inning with help from back-to-back triples by Hank LoForte and Mitchell Berryhill to start the game.
With the leadoff hit on the second pitch of the game, LoForte extended his on-base streak to 57 consecutive games which is the longest active streak in the nation. The senior went 3-for-6 Saturday with a triple and three runs.
Berryhill, who followed up LoForte's leadoff triple with a triple of his own to right-field went 3-for-4 on the day with two RBI and two runs. Berryhill now has back-to-back games with an extra base hit.
Fullerton made a valiant effort at a comeback in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs on eight hits. Seven runs is the most the Titans have scored in a single inning so far this season.
The Titans look to bounce back Sunday to win the final game of the series and stay undefeated on Sunday's. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. PT.
