Coach Vanderhook and USA Baseball Update
FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton head coach Rick Vanderhook is currently serving as an assistant coach for the United States Collegiate National team out on the east coast and is helping to lead the squad to a dominating summer thus far.
Team USA has gone an impressive 11-3 so far this summer outscoring its opponents 79-39 through their first 14 games. The summer campaign began by winning four of five games against a few of the elite summer collegiate teams in the East including the Catawba Valley Stars, Peninsula Pilots and Martinsville Mustangs.
The Americans followed that by sweeping Chinese Taipei in a four-game set with the fifth game being cancelled. The United States then followed that performance with a dramatic series win over the always powerful Cuban National Team, taking three out of five games, with two being decided by one run.
The team is scheduled to have six more games, the last being on July 17th. Those games include one game against the Futures Baseball League All-Stars and a five-game series against Japan.
Vanderhook has done a bunch of winning this year, as this coaching stint is following a successful 2017 campaign with Fullerton, that saw the Titans reach the College World Series for the 18th time in program history and for the second time over the last three seasons with Vanderhook at the helm.
