Titans Named No. 1 in USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll

FULLERTON, Calif. - Cal State Fullerton added another preseason accolade to their belt Wednesday as they were selected the No. 1 team in the nation by the USA Today Top 25 Preseason Coaches Poll.

 

The Titans received 18 first place votes and 729 total points in the poll, 46 more points than No. 2 LSU. The Titans were ranked No. 10 in USA Today's final rankings of 2013.

 

The preseason honors keep on coming for Cal State Fullerton as they were ranked No. 2 in the Perfect Game Preseason College Top 25 poll and No. 4 in the Baseball America Preseason Top 25 poll earlier this week. It was also the Titans second No. 1 preseason selection after Collegiate Baseball placed them atop their rankings in December.

 

The Titans will are scheduled to take on two other teams that also find themselves USA Today's Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll. They will travel to Oregon, which is ranked No. 7, from Feb. 28 – Mar. 2 for their third three-game series of the season. The Titans will also play a pair of games against No. 10 UCLA on April 8 (home) and May 6 (away).

 

In 2013, the Titans finished with a 51-10 (.836) overall record, the second-best winning percentage in program history. Their 51 victories also tied for fourth in Titans history and were the most wins for Cal State Fullerton since 1995 (57).

 

The Titans return 18 players to the 2014 squad and a freshman class that was ranked as the No. 7 recruiting class by Collegiate Baseball and No. 12 by Baseball America.

 

The Titans open the season on Feb. 14 against Washington State at Goodwin Field for a 7 p.m. first pitch.
