Men, Women 7th at BWC
Oct. 30, 2010
Riverside, Calif. - Both the Cal State Fullerton men's and women's teams placed seventh Saturday morning at the Big West Conference Cross Country Championships on the UC Riverside Ag/Ops course. On a wet track, UC Davis dethroned defending men's champion Cal Poly, which tumbled all the way to fifth place, while UC Santa Barbara's women defended their 2009 title. Gail Munoz was the highest finishing Titan runner, placng 16th in the women's 6K race in a time of 21:20.0. Lauren McIntyre was 29th, Grace Gonzales was 30th, Yomaira Hernandez was 39th and Lexie Bravo ran 43rd. For the men, John Carrell led the way with a 34th-place finish in 25:22.9 over the 8K course. Tyler Reed was 36th and there was a pack of Titans running 43rd through 45th in Ren Jones, Anthony Castellon and Jayson Perez. "Needless to say, I'm really disappointed with our placing," said Head Coach John Elders. "Not with the team, we had a really good year to this point, but we didn't put it together today. We were not the same team that competed at Northridge two weeks ago. "The women didn't show up. I really felt like we were contenders for the top three positions. UCR was fourth today and we were right behind them at Northridge and they didn't run today as well as they did at Northridge. We're a much better team than we showed. The guys, the same thing. We had two guys dealing with illness this week and we weren't ourselves today. If we had run the same times that we ran on this course earlier this year we would have been at least fourth and close to third. "It's a great group of kids and we will bounce back and go to regionals to try to get some redemption." Next up is the NCAA Regional meet on Nov. 13 in Eugene, Oregon. . |
