XC Men’s and Women’s Team Earn Runner-Up Finishes at Titan Invitational
FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton cross country hosted the Titan Invitational on Friday evening on campus in what was the squad's final tune-up before the Big West Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28 at UC Riverside. The men's and women's team both earned runner-up finishes among Division I teams competing in Friday's meet.
Loyola Marymount won the competition on the men's side with 18 points while the Titans tallied 37. Loyola Marymount also won on the women's side with 15 points while CSF totaled 45.
For the Titan men, they rested their top runners but were led by freshman Uriel Medina who took sixth place among DI competitors with an 8K time of 25:16.33. Senior Jason Hillquist's time of 25:19.20 was good for seventh place. Redshirt sophomore Erick Juarez took 10th place with a time of 25:24.56. Freshman Ryuya Souther posted a time of 26:11.70 and earned a 12th-place finish. Sophomore Freek van de Weerd finished in 13th place with a time of 26:36.53 and senior Gabe Toscano posted a time of 26:52.34 in 14th place.
The women's team took it easy on the day, using the race as more of a training session. Each of the eight women finished within two seconds of each other as freshman Wendi Leos led the way with a 5K time of 25:01.51 and junior Gabriella De La Rosa closed it out for the Titans in 25:03.22.
