Short Gains USA Semis

Des Moines, Iowa - Cal State Fullerton senior-to-be Ciara Short placed 15th in the senior women's 400 meter race at the USA Track and Field Championships over the weekend at Drake University.

Short, the Big West Conference champion, ran 53.20 to place 12th in the preliminaries on Thursday to qualify for the semifinals. She ran 15th in the semis in an eased up 55.04. The ultimate champion was Debbie Dunn of Nike in 49.64. The world record is 47.60 by Marita Koch of West Germany.

Cal State Fullerton alum Juliana Masciana placed ninth in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase in 10:18.82, running for Janes Elite Racing. The winner was Lisa Aguilera of Nike in 9:53.59.
