Golden Wins High Jump, Ellis Takes Steeplechase

Northridge, Calif. - Jonathan Golden won the men's high jump and Carolyn Ellis won the women's steeplechase to highlight Cal State Fullerton's first-day efforts Friday at the Big West Conference Track and Field Championships at Cal State Northridge. Golden cleared the bar at 6 feet, 10 3/4 inches for the Titan men's only victory and Ellis captured the women's only title with a time of 10:37.21. The men were in seventh place with 15 points and the women fourth with 30.5 points. Other Fullerton scoring efforts ncluded a second-place finish in the 10K by Grace Gonzalez at 36:27.49 and a fourth in the long jump by Allison Taylors at 18 feet, 4 1/4 inches. Gayle Greenough tied for third in the pole vault at 12 feet, 1 1/2 inches. For the men, Nick Longo was sixth in the hammer throw at 173 feet, 10 inches. The meet concludes Saturday. |
