Laron Brown and Garrett Myers were the second and third Titans to surpass this year's NCAA Western Regional Championship qualification standards as they helped usher in the return of the Ben Brown Invitational back to its home on the campus track facility of Cal State Fullerton.
Brown had a stellar performance in the high jump as he completed the day with a finishing height of 7 feet, one-half inch. That height was good enough for first in the invitational portion of the meet and earned him a spot at the regional championship host, the University of Oregon.
Following suit was Myers with his 24 foot, 10 inch leap in the long jump. His performance was also good enough for first in the invitational portion of the meet and will also earn him a spot to at regionals.
Other highlights from the men's competition included pole vaulter Andrew Sullivan matching his personal best performance, clearing the bar at 16 feet, one-half inch, to place second in the competition and also qualify for Big West Conference Championship competition.
David Spates, an up-and-coming thrower, placed third in the invitational shot put with a distance of 49 feet, 5 inches. In high school, Spates was a CIF state championship top 10 finisher.
The men's 4x100 meter relay finished third in the invite with a time of 41.78 seconds.
On the women's side, Ciara Short won the 200 meter invite with a time of 24.26, making for a new personal best. She also finished the weekend third in the 100 meter invite with a time of 12.10.
Lauren Williams had a third-place finish in the women's 100 meter hurdles invitational with a time of 13.60.
The women's squad of the 4x100 placed second in the invitational with a time of 46.84.
Topping off the field events for the women was the performance of Kelly MacLean in the pole vault. She cleared the bar at 12 feet, 7 and one-half inches, which was good enough for second in the invite.
Up next the Titans are off to San Diego State to take part in Aztec Invitational. Competition begins this Friday and will continue through Saturday.
A Big Thank You...
The coaches and staff of the men's and women's track and field programs at Cal State Fullerton would like to extend a great "thank you" to all of the volunteers, friends, family and alumni for all of the hard work and support over the past weekend. Without your help, the Ben Brown meet would not have happened.
This year's meet was a great success, and it was all because of you! Thank you for your continued support...
