1,400 Compete on Track

Fullerton, Calif. - Approximately 1,400 athletes braved cold, wind and rain Saturday to compete in the annual Ben Brown Invitational Track and Field Meet at Cal State Fullerton. All events were completed with only slight delays in the women's discus when the rain got heavy around 6 p.m. Several Cal State Fullerton athletes had good showings. Ciara Short ran second in the women's 100 in a time of 12.14, trailing only USC's Aareon Payne at 11.84. LeRon Brown also was a runnerup in the men's high jump at 6 feet, 6 3/4 inches behind only UCLA's Nelson Rosario at 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches. Julius Joseph was third in the shot put at 52 feet, 4 inches. Alison Stamos was fourth in the women's pole vault at 11 feet, 1 3/4 inches. Former Titan Giovanni Lanaro, who has competed in the last two Olympic Games for Mexico, won the men's pole vault at 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches. |
