Matt Turner posted a regional qualifying high jump and freshman Carolyn Ellis broke the school record in her first collegiate steeplechase Saturday to highlight Cal State Fullerton performances at the UCLA Invitational.
Turner cleared 7-feet-2 1/2 to win the event by almost six inches over Dominique Easterling of the host Bruins. Ellis ran 11:15.92 to place third behind two Bruin runners.
Other Titan standouts were Aaron Williams, winning the long jump at 24 3 3/4 for another regional qualifying mark, and Dalya Taman just missed a qualifying mark with a pole vault of 12 feet-3 1/2, good for fourth place.
The Titans also got a pair of victories in relays. Eugene Damiani, John Pratter, Lamar Jackson and Marcus Barosso combined to run 42.42 to win the men's 4x100 relay. Nancy Blake, Destany Cearley, Kristen Goossens and Kimiah Hudson combined to run 3:51.22 in the women's 4x400 relay.
Other Titan winners were Cearley in the women's 100 meter and 400 meter hurdles and Pratter in the men's 200 meter run.
Fullerton hosts the annual Ben Brown Invitational next weekend. The "Hammer and Hot Dogs" competition will begin Friday at 10 a.m. on the Fullerton campus and Saturday's running and remaining field events will be held at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
