FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton track and field will compete in the UCR Spring Track Classic this weekend. Competition begins on Thursday as two Titans will compete in the decathlon starting at 11 a.m. PT. The main track and field events begin on Friday at 11 a.m. and on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Last weekend, Samantha Huerta and Nicole Clark each broke their own school records and Huerta was honored as the Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight time. She was second overall and first among collegians in the women's 1,500-meter race to break her own school record with a time of 4:25.03, just edging her previous record of 4:25.16. Clark had a personal-best toss of 159-7 (48.65m) in the javelin to take fourth place overall and beat her previous record 156-9 (47.77m). That throw is tops in the Big West.

Two weekends ago at our very own Ben Brown Invitational, the Titans had some standout performances including another weekly honor as Huerta was named Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week. She broke her own school record in the mile with a time of 4:46.77. Charles Kelly won and set a personal best in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.29. Shelby Noble cleared 12-7.5 (3.85m) in the pole vault to take second place overall. Her personal-best clearance of 3.85m significantly bested her previous best of 3.70m.

In the men's sprints, the Titans own three of the top four spots in the Big West in the 100 meters and and each of the top four in the 200 meters, led by Mason Rollins in both at 10.54 and 21.25, respectively.

With the 2019 season under way, cross country and track and field head coach John Elders is in his 31st season at the helm of each program making him the longest tenured head coach in the history of Cal State Fullerton. Cal State Fullerton won the 2017 Big West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the first conference title in program history, then repeated that feat in 2018 to become back-to-back champions.
