FULLERTON, Calif. --- The Cal State Fullerton outdoor track and field team produced thee top-five finishes and a handful of personal bests on the first day of competition at the Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium on Friday.
With Fullerton's distance runners seeing all of the action on day one, freshman Jorge Sanchez placed fourth in 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 9:29.17 – besting his previous PR by eight seconds. He was closely followed by junior Jason Hillquist who finished in a time of 9:30.50 for fifth place, taking 15 seconds off his previous PR.
In the 5,000 meters, a trio of Titans set new PRs led by freshman Frank van de Weerd as the rookie placed sixth in a time of 14:42.87. Senior Joe Casco clocked a time of 14:51.71 to finish 12th, while freshman Sam Pimentel placed 15th in a time of 14:59.42.
Senior Emily Taylor took 10 seconds off her previous PR in the 5,000 meters, finishing in a time of 17:26.53 to place fourth.
The Titans return to action on Saturday finishing competition at the Steve Scott Invitational while also competing at the Fresno State Invitational.
