IRVINE, Calif.— Cal State Fullerton senior hurdler Javon May captured Big West men's track athlete of the week honors this week after his season-best performance in the 400-meter hurdles last weekend at the Florida Relays.
May ran a season-best 52.53 in the event and finished 14th overall, representing the highest placing Titan on the weekend. The time also currently ranks as the second-fastest mark in the Big West and is good enough for 31st in the NCAA West Region.
"We're very happy for Javon," said head coach John Elders. "He's worked really hard this season and he did a great job putting a complete race together. Coach Brandit Copper has been working with him a lot and it's been paying off."
May will look to keep his strong season going as he'll once again compete in the 400-meter hurdles this Friday at the Big West Challenge down at UC Irvine. He will also run in the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relay.
* Cal State Fullerton junior sprinter Katie Wilson was also nominated for Big West women's track athlete of the week. UC Davis' Kayla Carter ended up taking home that honor.
