FULLERTON, Calif.- After a solid showing in both of its two meets to begin the 2014 season, the Cal State Fullerton indoor track and field team now heads to Seattle, Wash., where the distance runners will get their first action of the season at the UW Invitational on the campus of the University of Washington at Dempsey Indoor this Friday and Saturday.
The sprinters, throwers, and most jumpers are off for the week as the Titan distance runners will be on display this weekend. Fullerton is sending eight different athletes to compete and this weekend's meet will mark the first competition of the season for redshirt sophomore Ana Valdovinos, junior Tejera Dial, freshman Ariana Fuentes, and junior Celinda Manzo.
Junior Elizabeth Claustro will compete in the 400-meter dash, while Valdovinos, Dial, and Fuentes will all compete in the mile run. Manzo and sophomore Tijerra Lynch will run the 3000-meter and juniors Jessica Aguilera and Taylor Frank will be participating in the high jump.
Fullerton will also compete in the 4000-meter distance medley relay (Valdovinos, Claustro, Dial, Fuentes, and Lynch).
At the Cherry and Silver Collegiate in Albquerque, N.M., last week weekend the team saw multiple personal records reached. Senior Katie Wilson set a new personal best in the 400-meter dash as the Ontario, Calif., native finished in ninth with a time of 54.84, while freshman Destinee Brown finished sixth in the 60-meter dash.
The sprinters will return to action next weekend at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., hosted by the University of Nebraska.
