Wilmington, NC - Former Cal State Fullerton athletics administrator Dr. Leanne Grotke-Andreas is one of five women who will be receiving the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA).
Dr. Grotke-Andreas was director of athletics for women in 1978-80 and then became associate director of athletics when the men's and women's programs were combined. She served in that role as well as interim athletics director on one occasion until her retirement in 1991.
She moved to Destin, Florida, with her husband, Andy, to work on her golf game. She also volunteered with the Children's Volunteer Health Network and local nursing homes.
The awards will be presented at the annual NACWAA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, at the Omni Hotel on Oct. 12. The other four recipients are Dr. Tina Sloan Green from Temple, J. Elaine Hieber from Iowa State, Dr. Katherine Ley (posthumously) from Capital University and Dr. Donnis Thompson from Hawaii. Dr. Grotke-Andreas will not be able to attend due to health issues.
