Fullerton, Calif. - Former Cal State Fullerton head gymnastics coach and current Compliance Officer Julie Bowse has been appointed the Titans' associate athletics director/senior woman administrator effective July 1.
The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Brian Quinn, who today became president of NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) Div. I-AAA (no football). Bowse replaces Dr. Allison Rich, who resigned in May for a similar post at Florida State.
Bowse has been Fullerton's compliance officer since June 1, 2005. She was head coach of the gymnastics program for seven years (1999-2005) as Julie Knight. She competed for the inaugural Titan gymnastics team in 1976 and won three All-American awards on vault, floor exercise and all-around.
Bowse's coaching career began at SCATS in Huntington Beach and continued with a tour at the Clovis Academy of Gymnastics and Dance in her native Central California. She returned to her college roots in 1994 as an assistant to Coach Lynn Rogers, eventually serving as associate head coach in 1999 when she was selected Big West Conference coach of the year.
Quinn served NACDA last year as first vice-president. He assumed the post of director of athletics at Cal State Fullerton on Jan. 14, 2002. He spent four years (2006-09) on the NCAA Div. I Baseball Committee.
In June of 2007, he was named the Astroturf Division I, West Region, Athletics Director of the Year by NACDA. The award is based upon commitment and positive contributions to campuses and their surrounding communities.
